Low Priced Previews April 23 & 24 – All Seats $25!
Richmond Triangle Players opens its spring season with Ana Nogueria’s playful yet profound comedy Which Way to the Stage, which will play at RTP’s Robert B. Moss Theatre from April 23 – May 17, 2025.

Which Way to the Stage is all about friendship, ambition, and what happens when dreams fall just out of reach. Broadway superfans Jeff (played by Matt Shofner) and Judy (Amanda Spellman) eagerly await their idol Idina Menzel after her performance in If/Then at the stage door every night.

But when a sexy stranger enters the scene and upends their decades-long friendship, the musical theater aficionados have to go off book to rewrite their own finale. This funny and touching play centers around the roles we perform and how we will have to push past the roles in which we’ve been typecast.

Rounding out the cast will be Calvin Malone as Mark and Sydnee Graves as an Actress, Bachelorette and Casting Director. Understudies are Wayne Parker and Shannon Schilstra.

“At Triangle Players, we love telling stories that speak directly to our community with humor, heart, and a little bit of Broadway sparkle,” said RTP artistic director Lucian Restivo, who is also directing this production.

Which Way to the Stage is a love letter to theatre nerds, chosen families, and anyone who’s ever waited at a stage door. It’s sharp, smart, and hilarious—but underneath all the sass and showtunes, it’s also deeply human. Audiences are going to laugh a lot, but they’ll also walk away feeling seen.”

Matt Shofner is a well-known area actor and director, having just appeared in Virginia Rep’s Charley and the Chocolate Factory. He last appeared at RTP in leading roles in Falsettos and Angels in America: Millenium Approaches. Amanda Spellman is making her RTP stage debut. She has previously worked at Firehouse Theatre, NextStop Theatre Company, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, Chamberlayne Actors Theatre, Monumental Theatre Company and Annapolis Shakespeare.

Calvin Malone received an RTCC nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his leading role in RTP’s Head Over Heels. Regional credits include Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Studio Tenn, Virginia Music Theatre, Virginia Repertory Theatre, Nashville Repertory Theatre, Kentucky Repertory Theatre, Riverside Center for the Performing Arts, and Toby’s Theatre of Columbia. Syndee Graves was also featured in RTP’s Head Over Heels and as an understudy in 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche.  She just finished a successful run with Richmond Shakespeare in Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged.

Wayne Parker was last seen at RTP in the title role of The Rocky Horror Show, while Shannon Schilstra lit up the stage in Head Over Heels and The Best of Times.

Which Way to the Stage is designed by Daniel Allen (set), Tarriq Karriem (costumes), Luke Newsome (wigs and makeup), Paul Vaillancourt (lighting) and Tim Moehring (properties).  Sound and projection design is by Lucian Restivo, and production stage manager is Lauren Langston.
