“In reference to the character descriptions below-most characters we encounter currently are
on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the
following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as
inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and
non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list
race/ethnicity when specic to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and
ethnicities. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any
accommodations we can provide.” -Language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin

AVAILABLE ROLES
JUDY – 30s, Funny, intelligent, has bigger dreams than she can admit to herself. She is Jeff’s
best friend. Sometimes gets in her own way. Judy is real. She is not unattractive, but she is not
the female ideal. She’s just a real woman trying to make it in a business that thrives on
fantasy.
JEFF – 30s, Passionate, talented. Has a great sense of humor, but deep down takes it all very
seriously. He is Judy’s best friend. Jeff is also “real.” Anything about him that might come off
as a typical “Queen” is extremely authentic. He is who he is and is not apologizing for it.
MARK – 30s, Robert Redford’s character from The Way We Were if instead of being a novelist
he was a musical theater performer. Good looking. Complacent. Things come easily to him.
One minute you’re sure you know everything about him, the next he is surprising you in the
most wonderful ways.
ACTRESS, BACHELORETTE, CASTING DIRECTOR – 30s, A beautiful young actress who seems
to have it all/A drunk Bachelorette/An exhausted casting director.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Ana Nogueira’s playful yet profound comedy is all about friendship, ambition, and what
happens when dreams fall just out of reach. Broadway superfans Jeff and Judy eagerly await
their idol Idina Menzel after her performance in If/Then at the stage door every night. But
when a sexy stranger enters the scene and upends their decades-long friendship, the musical
theater acionados have to go off book to rewrite their own nale. This funny and touching
play centers around the roles we perform and transcends one’s ‘type.’
